Experiencing the City of Medicine

Durham is a creative, innovative community that is always doing something new. We’re known as the City of Medicine because nearly 25% of those employed in Durham work in healthcare or a health-related industry. Additionally, Durham is home to many leading technology companies like IBM, Cree, and others located in Research Triangle Park. It occupies a prime location in the heart of North Carolina and is a nexus for learning, creativity, research, and industry. Whether you’re a resident, visitor, group planner, newcomer, journalist, or consultant you will enjoy being steeped in Durham’s rich history and vibrant community.

Travel By Air

Raleigh Durham International Airport (RDU) is located near Morrisville and I-40, midway between Downtown Durham and Downtown Raleigh. It’s just a few exits up from The King’s Daughters Inn… about 20-25 minutes by taxi or car service. Taxi fare is approximately $30 plus tip.

Travel by Bus or Car

Durham’s community is very compact. We’re conveniently served by taxi, rental car and Uber. The Bull City Connector is Durham’s free bus service. Several of the bus lines pick up right outside our doors! A word of caution to adventurous travelers – roads in the Southeast are rarely on a grid system, so a Durham map is a must. Just ask for one at the front desk.

Travel by Train

There’s no better way to commute between Charlotte and Durham than by train. What’s even sweeter is that we’re a mere half mile from the station!
